The job involved opening up a façade wall to create a new bright, functional space, while strictly maintaining the safety and stability of the existing building.
Rigorous planning with a structural engineering office
Before any work, our teams worked closely with a concrete structural engineering office. The drawings were studied in detail and every step of the execution method was defined to ensure compliance with current standards. This approach guarantees that opening the load-bearing wall does not compromise the structural integrity of the building.
A made-to-measure steel reinforcement solution
The project required a steel portal frame system made up of a double structure:
- Double UPE 200 columns at each end to carry the vertical load,
- Double HEB 200 beam, joined with through threaded rods for optimal rigidity.
The beams and columns were fixed using a set of steel base plates, welding and bolting, in line with the engineering office's technical instructions. This combination ensures perfect stability and transfers the loads safely.
Execution techniques and compliance with standards
To open the wall, OMPT GROUPE applied proven techniques of steel structure reinforcement:
- The columns and beams were installed following the phasing defined by the engineers,
- All connections were checked to ensure alignment and flatness,
- The fixings were designed to withstand permanent and temporary loads, guaranteeing the durability of the work.
This approach makes it possible to break through or open a load-bearing wall safely, while minimising the risks to the building and its occupants.
