Would you like to create more space in your home ? Our team specialises in this type of work and can offer you many solutions. One of them is enlarging an opening in a load-bearing wall.
A client recently came to us to enlarge an opening in a load-bearing wall in their apartment in Paris 18th. The apartment was in a co-owners' building, so a structural engineer had to be involved. The engineering office (BET) set out the steps we had to follow.
We started the works by protecting the premises throughout. Then we built a support for the wall made of props and timber planks. We then began demolishing the wall. To support the new opening, a double IPE 220 lintel was installed, sealed into the walls and resting on reinforced concrete padstones. The beam was cut into two sections because its size would not fit through the common areas of the building. The assembly was carried out on site using steel splice plates.
We applied anti-rust paint to all the steel elements to prevent any deterioration over time.
