Our company OUVERTURE MURS PORTEURS TREMIES recently demolished a partially load-bearing partition in an apartment in Villeneuve-Loubet. The aim of the demolition was to enlarge the living space. This time, the structural engineering office prescribed a scheme to strengthen the new opening using timber elements. A timber structure is a good alternative to a steel one, especially in buildings that are already built of wood.
First, we began the works by protecting the premises with a special self-adhesive site sheeting. Next, we installed props to support the ceiling while the wall was being taken down.
After demolishing the partition, we built reinforced concrete padstones to support the new timber beam on one side. On the other side, the beam rests on the column and is connected to it with metal joist hangers. The beam was then wedged against the wall to create the maximum bearing. A general clean-up was carried out at the end of the job.
