Enlarging a load-bearing wall opening in Antibes (06)
As part of a renovation project in Antibes, OMPT GROUPE enlarged an opening in a load-bearing wall. This technical operation was carried out in strict accordance with the recommendations of a structural engineering office, to guarantee the stability of the existing structure.
Structural study and reinforcement solution
Following the engineering office's analysis, a suitable steel structure was installed to carry the loads:
- an HEA 200 section as the main lintel, sealed into the supports on each side,
- an HEA 160 placed perpendicularly, strengthening the whole structure.
This reinforcement system makes the enlarged load-bearing wall opening safe for the long term.
Securing the site and creating the opening
Before any work, our teams installed reinforced shoring and protected the work area.
The opening was then cut using a controlled cutting technique, ensuring:
- precise work,
- no significant vibrations,
- preservation of the existing structures.
Installing the steel beams
Once the opening was created, the steel elements were installed in accordance with the drawings:
- installation of the HEA 200,
- sealing into the load-bearing walls,
- installation of the perpendicular HEA 160,
- checks of level, alignment and stability.
Result
This enlargement makes better use of the space and improves circulation between rooms, while providing a reliable structure that meets technical requirements and is ready for the finishes.
