Opening a bay in a reinforced concrete load-bearing wall. Reinforcement with a steel structure in Cannes.

OMPT recently assisted a client in Cannes with the refurbishment of a commercial unit. The project involved demolishing part of a concrete wall to create a 2 m wide opening and strengthening it with a steel lintel.

To carry out the planned work successfully, we followed to the letter the recommendations and drawings supplied by a BET.

At the client's request, no protection was provided, either inside or in the common areas.

We began by installing two rows of vertical shoring to take the loads of the ceiling and load-bearing walls. Then the opening was made using an electric wall chaser and a circular saw with diamond blades.

A 2.60 m long HEB200 steel lintel was installed, sealed 30 cm deep into the wall and resting on RC padstones at each end. To keep the steel in good condition, we painted it with anti-rust paint.

At the end, the work area was carefully cleaned so that the client could return to a clean space.
