OMPT GROUPE has carried out another major structural intervention, involving the creation of an opening in a load-bearing façade wall, scrupulously following the recommendations of the structural engineering office (BET). Once again, this project demonstrates the group's expertise in work on load-bearing walls, structural reinforcement and safe architectural modification.
Structural analysis and BET recommendations
Before the opening was made, a structural engineering office carried out a full study of the existing load-bearing wall. The aim: to determine the safest reinforcement solution to guarantee the stability of the building during and after the work.
Based on the BET's calculations, a mixed structure of reinforced concrete (RC) and steel was recommended to take up both vertical and horizontal loads.
Strengthening the load-bearing wall: a combined concrete and steel solution
To secure the opening in the façade, OMPT GROUPE carried out:
Reinforced concrete (RC) ground beam
An RC ground beam was poured to form a solid support and redistribute the loads correctly.
UPN 180 steel columns
Two UPN180 columns were installed vertically to form a robust load-bearing frame that takes up the lateral loads.
HEA 180 beam as lintel
The top of the opening was strengthened with an HEA180 beam, sized according to the engineering office's calculations.
Safe execution method
OMPT GROUPE followed a strict sequence of work:
- Installation of temporary shoring to secure the load-bearing wall.
- Construction of the RC ground beam: formwork, reinforcement, pouring.
- Installation and fixing of the UPN180 columns.
- Fitting of the HEA180 beam at the top of the opening.
- Controlled dismantling of the load-bearing wall in accordance with the BET's requirements.
Result: a safe opening that meets the standards
The work created a wide, attractive opening while meeting all structural safety standards.
Thanks to the combination of the steel structure and reinforced concrete, the building retains excellent stability and optimal load capacity.
