An opening in a load-bearing wall is the kind of project we have mastered. This time, we worked in Marseille to create an opening in a concrete wall and strengthen it with a steel structure.
To avoid any risk, a structural engineering office had studied the feasibility of the project and provided recommendations, which we followed strictly.
First, we prepared the site by protecting the floors, the swimming pool and the outdoor access paths with self-adhesive sheeting and hardboard panels.
A system of vertical props and planks was installed to distribute all the loads carried by the wall to be demolished.
Next, we cut two openings using an electric wall chaser and a circular saw with diamond blades.
The wall was reinforced with two HEB200 beams resting on the reinforced concrete (RC) column on one side and sealed into the wall on the other. For the second opening, two HEB300 beams were set on the RC columns at each end. Packing and wedging were done above the beams with non-shrink mortar.
To ensure the steel structure lasts over the long term, we treated it with anti-rust paint.
As always, we finished the job with a general clean-up of the premises.
