OMPT GROUPE worked in Nice to partially remove a partially load-bearing partition in an apartment.
The aim of the project was to change the interior layout while keeping the existing structure stable. To make the opening safe, our teams reinforced it with an IPN 270 steel beam, suited to the project's constraints.
Making safe and temporary propping
Before any demolition, OMPT GROUPE fully protected the work area and installed temporary vertical propping.
This propping supported the loads throughout the removal of the partition, until the steel section was brought into final service.
Controlled demolition of the partition
The masonry partition, about 15 cm thick, was removed gradually using suitable equipment, including a diamond circular saw and specialist machines.
The rubble was then taken to the waste recycling centre to keep the site clean and organised.
Installing an IPN 270 steel beam
To carry the loads, OMPT GROUPE supplied and installed an IPN 270 beam about 4.05 metres long.
The beam was fixed to the existing columns at each end using steel base plates, M14 bolts and chemical resin anchoring.
Packing with non-shrink mortar was also done above the section to ensure good load transfer.
The whole steel structure was given anti-rust paint to improve its durability.
Protection, cleaning and completion
The job also included protecting floors and access routes, handling of equipment, transport, and cleaning during and at the end of the work.
This organisation allows the work to be done under good conditions while limiting disruption in the home.
Final result
Thanks to this work, the interior space could be transformed safely.
The partial removal of the partially load-bearing partition and the installation of the steel beam now open up the volumes better, while ensuring the stability of the structure.
OMPT GROUPE confirms its expertise in structural reinforcement work, IPN beam installation, demolition of partially load-bearing partitions and technical projects on the Côte d’Azur.
