Reinforcing timber joists with a steel structure in Cannes

OMPT GROUPE carried out a timber floor reinforcement in Cannes to strengthen existing joists that had become inadequate. The work consisted of integrating UPN220 and HEA180 steel beams, in accordance with the plans and calculation notes of the structural engineering office (BET).

Context and objectives

Following a structural survey, the timber joists had a limited load-bearing capacity for the new service loads. The aim was to increase the mechanical strength of the floor, improve its stiffness and ensure perfect long-term stability, while keeping the existing structure wherever possible.

Reinforcement method

Before the work, a secure temporary propping system was put in place to guarantee the stability of the structure.

The OMPT GROUPE teams then carried out:

  • Installation of UPN220 and HEA180 beams according to the BET's recommendations
  • Precise connection between the timber and steel structures
  • Checking of levels and load distribution

This solution provides a significant increase in load-bearing capacity and a better distribution of permanent and service loads.

Rebuilding the structural supports

As some existing supports were deteriorated, OMPT GROUPE rebuilt and reinforced them, ensuring optimal transfer of loads to the load-bearing structure.

Thanks to this work, the floor now has a reliable structure, compliant with regulatory requirements and suited to the constraints of the building.

OMPT GROUPE works in Cannes and throughout the Alpes-Maritimes on all timber floor reinforcement, steel structure and underpinning work.
