Discover a job we carried out to create a floor opening for a custom staircase in Nice. For his project, the client wanted a steel staircase of a specific shape and size. We therefore took exact measurements to get precise details of the cut-out and the position of the staircase. This step determines the right dimensions and layout of the staircase, taking into account the available area and the layout of the room. Taking measurements also makes it easier to mark out and drill the opening. Before starting the work, we begin by protecting the furniture, the floor and all the glazing. We then set up the props and planks to support the floor during cutting. Floor demolition is a complex task that calls for know-how and suitable tools. With a few passes of an electric chainsaw, we completed the operation. Strengthening the existing joists is essential once the opening has been created. We then fix a UPN 160 mm steel frame to them with threaded rods and welding. With the structure reinforced, we move on to installing the steel staircase. It has 15 steps made of steel angles with a thickness of 20 mm. The client chose steel tube for the handrail finish, along with 22 mm natural oak tread boards. To finish the job, we apply anti-rust paint to all the metal parts and give the room a general clean. Clear of clutter, the space is handed over completely clean with a brand-new steel staircase leading to the upper floor.
