In Grasse, OMPT Groupe carried out a floor strengthening operation following major water damage that had weakened the structure of an old building. This technical job aimed to restore the floor's load-bearing capacity and secure the whole structure, while respecting the constraints of an occupied building.
After the diagnosis was validated by the structural engineering office (BET), our teams made the floor safe using carefully sized vertical propping. The weakened areas were then cleared out and strengthened by creating reinforced concrete padstones, serving as bearings for the new steel structure.
The reinforcement was achieved by installing UPN 140 sections fixed to the existing beam using the twin-beam clamping (moisage) technique, which connects the structural elements with through threaded rods and non-shrink grouting.
To complete the work, a water-resistant OSB decking was installed between the joists, precisely wedged and reinforced by high-density foam injection, ensuring better distribution of the bearings. The steel structure was then treated with an anti-rust paint to preserve its durability.
Carried out over about two weeks, this structural reinforcement job in Grasse illustrates the expertise of OMPT Groupe in the restoration and strengthening of floors after damage.
