Strengthening a floor in Cannes before removing partially load-bearing partitions

As part of an interior refurbishment in Cannes, OMPT GROUPE stepped in to strengthen an existing floor ahead of the upcoming removal of partially load-bearing partitions.
The goal: to anticipate and control the redistribution of loads on the existing structure without compromising the stability of the building.

Technical propping

A vertical timber propping system was set up using planks and steel props, in line with the supplied installation drawings. This arrangement temporarily relieved the loads on the floor and walls for the whole duration of the strengthening work.

Installing the steel structure

The strengthening consisted of installing a set of UPN330 steel beams, placed alongside an existing UPE450 beam. The assembly was clamped together with through threaded rods, ensuring a strong, lasting connection between the steel members.

Because of access constraints, each UPN330 beam was delivered in two sections and then assembled on site using steel splice plates, fixed by welding and bolting.

Connecting elements and anchors

Steel connection angles were added at the following intersections:

  • Between the existing UPE450 and the new UPN330 beams,
  • Between the UPE450 and secondary members such as the IPE200.

These connections, also made by welding and bolting, ensure continuity of forces and an even distribution of loads throughout the reinforced structure.

Structural wedging

Precision wedging was carried out at each support interruption (IAO) of the floor to ensure an optimal transfer of forces to the new steel structure.

Corrosion protection and repairs

An anti-rust paint was applied to all the metal elements, including the welds, to prevent any premature corrosion.

A well-organised, well-controlled job

This job in Cannes demonstrates the expertise of OMPT GROUPE in floor load transfer within an interior transformation.
The work was carried out methodically and precisely, respecting the technical constraints, and gave our client a solid base for the rest of the works.
