Following the demolition of the interior load-bearing partitions, OMPT GROUPE carried out a complete reinforcement of the roof structure using an independent steel structure, in line with the requirements of the structural engineering office.
1. Installing the main steel beams (HEA200)
- Two HEA200 beams were installed to take the roof loads, replacing the supports removed during demolition.
- They connect:
- at the top, to the existing beam by means of connection plates,
- at the sides, to the reinforced perimeter walls.
2. Reinforcing the existing central column
- The existing column was wrapped and reinforced with two UPN200 sections forming a steel box.
- Fixed with M16 grade 8.8 threaded rods, spaced 50 cm apart, sealed with chemical resin.
- This steel box now provides vertical load transfer and longitudinal stabilisation of the new load-bearing system.
3. Installing the cross members and horizontal ties (UPN200)
- A network of UPN200 (at the base and on the side walls) was installed to ensure:
- the transfer of downward loads,
- the distribution of horizontal forces onto the perimeter walls,
- the overall stability of the newly created structure.
4. Base plates and steel connections
- Installation of 10 mm thick S235 steel plates, continuously welded.
- At each bearing point, mechanical connection with M16 bolts.
- At the top, the junction between the HEA200 and the existing beam is reinforced with 4 plates of 10 mm, continuously welded.
5. Anchoring to the perimeter walls
- The UPN sections and plates are fixed into the walls with chemically sealed M16 rods every 50 cm, ensuring perfect transmission of forces.
Overall structural function
The steel structure installed by OMPT GROUPE makes it possible to:
- rebuild a complete load-bearing system after removal of the originally load-bearing partitions,
- ensure full transfer of the roof loads,
- improve the rigidity and lateral stability of the whole,
- guarantee a level of safety that meets the BET's requirements.
